The first king to unite Upper and Lower Egypt, and founder of the capital, Memphis.
Narmer is regarded as the founder of the 1st Dynasty (some Egyptologists see him as the last king of the so-called Dynasty 0). The Narmer Palette named after him, found in 1897–98 in the Temple of Horus at Hierakonpolis, shows him triumphing over his enemies and records the unification of the country as the founding political event of Egypt.
