What is known about Amenhotep II
Amenhotep II was a son of Thutmose III and his co-regent for about two years. He undertook several campaigns in the Syro-Palestinian region.

The period: New Kingdom
Egypt becomes a great power with a sphere of influence stretching from Sudan to Syria. The vast temples of Karnak and Luxor and the tombs in the Valley of the Kings date from this period.
- c. 1500 BCFrom Thutmose I onwards, the kings are buried in the Valley of the Kings near Thebes.
- c. 1470 BCHatshepsut reigns as pharaoh: terraced temple at Deir el-Bahari and trading expedition to Punt.
- 1457 BCThutmose III is victorious at Megiddo; Egypt controls large parts of the Levant.
- c. 1350 BCAkhenaten places the sun god Aten at the centre of worship and builds the new capital Akhetaten (Amarna).
